SSL Record Protocol

• The SSL Record protocol permits the encapsulation of higher level protocols such as:
  • SSL Handshake Protocol
  • SSL Alert Protocol
  • HTTP

• The SSL Record Protocol is the foundation for all data transfer.
  • It builds the data path between sender and receiver.
  • Before the data is sent, SSL encrypts the data path.
    • The data path starts out unencrypted.
